Mental Health expert encourages parents to talk to kids about appropriate social media use

ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) – We are seeing online threats pop up throughout our hometowns. Roanoke City Schools canceled all classes and activities Thursday because of the concern.

Leaders say families will be notified later Thursday if schools will be open or closed Friday.

The threats were posted to social media, and Roanoke City police are investigating. Police say they will hold those accountable for threatening students and staff.

WDBJ7 talked with a Prevention and Wellness Specialist with Blue Ridge Behavioral Health, Cindy Levasseur, who says these instances can be scary for parents and students alike. She says it’s important to keep in mind social media apps are designed for adults. Click here to view the full story.
