Summary of Blue Ridge Behavioral Healthcare (BRBH) Employee Benefits

(Full-time employees only unless noted)


Health/Dental/Vision Insurance

Medical Plans: BRBH offers a choice of two healthcare plans.  Both plans are administered by Anthem and include dental, prescription and wellness benefits.  If elected at the time of employment, coverage begins on the first of the month following thirty consecutive days of employment.

Base Plan: Our base plan is a High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP).  For those electing the HDHP plan, a Health Savings Account (HSA) is available under most conditions.  BRBH contributes $500.00 to the HSA on an annual basis to those electing employee only and $200.00 for those electing dual coverage. Employees may contribute to the HSA on a tax-favored basis to the maximum contribution levels allowed by law.

Premium Plan: Our premium plan is the Key Advantage 1000 Plan.  In addition to the inclusion of a dental plan, it also offers vision coverage.

Additional Vision: We offer additional vision coverage through EyeMed.  EyeMed is available whether or not you or your dependents are enrolled in our healthcare plan.  EyeMed may be purchased for coverage of an employee and their eligible dependents.  Dependents only qualify for coverage if the employee is also covered.


Flexible Savings Accounts

Enrollment in Flexible Spending Accounts (health care and dependent care) is available to pay for qualified healthcare and dependent care expenses with tax advantaged contributions.

Employee Assistance Program (EAP)

The Employee Assistance Program (EAP) gives all employees (full-time, part-time  and relief) and immediate family access to confidential short-term counseling for family, marital, substance abuse, depression, stress, legal and financial concerns. Immediate family is defined as spouse, child or domestic partner who lives in the same household as the employee. Additionally, employees and family members enrolled in one of the BRBH sponsored healthcare plans may also utilize the EAP benefit associated with that plan.

Retirement Benefits

Virginia Retirement System (VRS)

BRBH participates in the Virginia Retirement System (VRS).  Both the agency and the employee make contributions to VRS. Employee contributions are 5% of their annualized salary.  Employees become vested in the defined benefit plan after five years of employment.  For Hybrid Plan members, the vesting in the employer match for the defined contribution component of the plan begins after two years of employment on an escalation scale until full vesting is reached after five years of employment.


Deferred Compensation (457 Plan)

BRBH offers part-time and full-time employees the opportunity to participate in a 457 Deferred Compensation plan to supplement retirement.  Enrollment in the plan requires a minimum contribution of $10.00 per paycheck. 


Life and AD&D Insurance

Employees receive a life insurance policy equal to two times their annualized salary, rounded to the next thousand, paid for by BRBH.  This is provided through the Virginia Retirement System with Minnesota Life Insurance Company.  Employees have an option to purchase additional life insurance for themselves and qualified family members up to four times their annualized salary.

Long Term Care Insurance

The purchase of LTCI insurance is available to employees and their eligible family members.  This is part of VRS and is underwritten by Genworth Life Insurance Company.

External Voluntary Benefits

Cancer, accident and disability insurance policies are available through AFLAC and RL Woods.  We offer payroll deduction for these premiums.

Liability Insurance

BRBH provides liability insurance on all full-time, part-time and relief employees for work activities during the hours for which they are both on duty and paid by BRBH.  The amount of general liability coverage for each employee is $4 million per occurrence and $2 million for each malpractice occurrence with unlimited aggregate.

Licensure Supervision

Blue Ridge Behavioral Healthcare provides free licensure supervision for those requiring clinical licensure as part of their job requirements (LPC or LCSW).


Paid Time Off

Blue Ridge Behavioral Healthcare provides Paid Time Off (PTO) for vacations, holidays, public closings, brief personal and family illness & personal business.
